Freecycle

For those who have never participated, I highly recommend joining Freecycle. It's a beautiful idea (actually practiced here in Knoxville!) whose time has come. As we are all fighting with Amvets to come pick up our yardsale leftovers (yes, they actually pick and choose) and trying to convince the guy sitting at the charity clothing bin in the Fellini Kroger parking lot that these clothes will keep someone warm (and still, he refuses them- citing lack of room), Freecycle comes to our rescue!

It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. So, ease your headache, clean out your basement, and go to Freecycle.org!

One More Reason to Love Chuck

The way you can go to Paris or Beijing and everywhere there's a McDonald's hamburger, this is the ecological quivalent of franchised life-forms. Every place is the same place. Kudzu. Zebra Mussels. Water Hyacinths. Starlings. Burger Kings. The local natives, anything unique gets squeezed out.The only biodiversity we're going to have left is Coke versus Pepsi. We're landscaping the whole world one stupid mistake at a time.”-- Chuck Palaniuk
